Spijtig genoeg moesten we bij het Kwisitis bezoekerscentrum rechtsomkeer maken om naar het Pacific Rim bezoekerscentrum te rijden, het eerstgenoemde was namelijk gesloten (en toch het grootste van de twee), waar we een Canada Parks parkpas moesten aanschaffen en een kaart kregen. De parkpas is vereist om \u201cte mogen parkeren\u201d in de parken, want controlehokjes zijn er niet. Kan zijn dat dit in de andere parken nog wijzigt. Echter, zoals de man zei: \u201cde pas blijft in de wagen, niet je broekzak\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eenmaal terug in het park, eerste stop het Kwisitis bezoekerscentrum. Klinkt misschien raar, maar de populairste wandelroutes begonnen daar: <strong>South Beach Trail<\/strong> &amp; <strong>Nuu-chah-nuith<\/strong> <strong>Trail<\/strong>. De laatste was de langste, met enkel 2,4 km, en je moest nog terug. Laat je echter niet vangen door de mooie wandelpaden bestaande uit houten plankjes, ooit geraakt namelijk hun hout op en dan loop je gewoon weer in de modder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure spotten waarnaar ze (volgens mij) verwezen. Het is een kleine insectenetende bloem, zo\u2019n vijf Eurocent groot, met waterige uiteindes. Ter goeder trouw begonnen we let route B, dewelke door een regenwoud liep. Het is nog vrij jong en zal pas echt zijn glorie kennen over honderden jaren, maar niettegenstaande is het de wandeling over de smalle houten paadjes waard. Ze liggen soms wat schuin en met gebrekkig evenwicht kan het gevaarlijk worden. Wel ja, &#8211; anekdote waarschuwing &#8211; route A heeft uitgewezen dat het gevaarlijk is, want plots lagen we zo\u2019n meter lager in de mossen naast het pad. De bomen zijn te groot om niet omhoog te kijken en voordat je het beseft zet je een kleine pas naar achteren om het beter te zien en merk je dat je been zweeft omdat er geen plank meer is. Maar, alsof hogere machten ermee gemoeid waren, hebben we daarna wel 2 wilde <strong>beren<\/strong> gespot! En voor je het vraagt, de beren hebben me niet opgepeuzeld en de Voltaren zat al preventief in de koffer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-3 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-3 opengaan. Apocalyptisch was de wolkenmassa die als een tsunami voor de kust hing. Alsof er iets ergers op til stond. Rond het hotel loopt de <strong>Pacific Wildlife Trail<\/strong> en op aanraden van de receptionist hebben we ook daar een klein stukje van meegepikt. Alleen &#8211; anekdote waarschuwing &#8211; moeten we ons niet nog eens laten vangen door het heerlijke gerecht op de doos, want er zat maar de helft in. Wel ja, we hebben toch beren gezien en geleerd dat een boom die omvalt in een bos niet geruimd moet worden maar van v\u00e9\u00e9l nut is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-3
